  • Continuum Reef Basis Strontium – Dry

    $81.00$137.00

    The Continuum advantage.

Reef•Basis Strontium is a high purity strontium in dry form, designed to safely raise the strontium level in marine aquariums, providing essential strontium for aragonite formation and coral and other invertebrate growth. It contains no acetate, EDTA, polygluconates and is much stronger than many competitor’s products because it is made from anhydrous salts, not hydrated salts.

    Use in aquarium keeping.

Continuum recommends that you maintain a strontium level of 8 to 13 mg/L (ppm), a calcium level of between 410 and 450 mg/L (ppm), an alkalinity level of 7 to 11 dKH (2.5 to 4 meq/L), and a magnesium level of 1250 to 1350 mg/L (ppm). Note: Aquarists keeping SPS corals should consider keeping alkalinity at 7 to no more than 9 dKH (2.5 to 3.21 meq/L).

    Directions and protocol.

Dissolve 1/2 gram, about 1/8 teaspoon of product in 8 oz. ( 236 ml )purified water. Add in an area of high flow directly to tank for each 20 gallons capacity, every other day until the desired Strontium level is reached. For best results, measure the strontium concentration and add as necessary to maintain between 8 and 13 mg/L (ppm).

    Expert use.

To dose, determine the amount of strontium consumption during the time it takes add the entire volume of your drip system. Determine the amount of Reef•Basis Strontium to add to your drip system in grams by multiplying your tank capacity in gallons by the amount you want to raise it in mg/l (ppm) and by 0.0074. ( Example: if you have a 20 gallon tank and you want to raise the level by 3 mg/l (ppm) with the entire dose, you would multiply 20 x .0074 x 3 which equals .44 grams or about 1/8 teaspoon of Reef•Basis Strontium.

Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Product gets hot when mixed with water. Not for human consumption. Contains strontium chloride, if ingested drink water. If in eyes flush with water.

  • Continuum Bacter Clean M

    $21.00$37.00

    The Continuum advantage.

Bacter Clean•M is a unique marine microbial culture and enzyme product specifically designed to target and clean surfaces of live rock, coral decorations and tank walls, removing stains, loosening and softening debris for easy vacuuming and providing a cleaner, more pristine environment. It will outcompete unwanted substances and loosen the grip of ugly accumulations and coatings making their removal by scraping or vacuuming easy. Its exclusive bacterial formula does much of the work for you, to help provide the beautiful reef or marine aquarium you have always wanted. It will also rapidly breakdown organic waste, leftover food, debris and detritus in marine aquariums, providing essential water quality improvement.

    Use in aquarium keeping.

Continuum recommends that you filter tap makeup water by reverse osmosis, distillation or deionization along with carbon pre-filtration to prevent adding phosphates and silicates to your aquarium. Continuum recommends a phosphate level of less than .02 mg/l (ppm). If you have high phosphate or silicate levels, you can lower them rapidly by using Continuum Captiv•Phos W or Captiv•Phos Fe or liquid Phos•Correx prior to or while using this product. The use of nerite snails, turbo snails, emerald crabs and other grazers is also recommended. Although not required, it would be advantageous to first use Continuum Redox Plus to lower the organic load of the aquarium and to raise the ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) and then wait 2 hours before using this product for the first time. Continuum also recommends that you consider using Reef Micro•Fuel, along with the Bacter Clean•M, as an organic carbon source to accelerate the growth and increase the effectiveness of the bacteria in this product. Bacter Clean•M can be used simultaneously with BacterGen•M and BacterGen•MD. If using simultaneously, cut the dosage of each of the other bacterial products in half, and use on different days.

    Directions and protocol.

Place 1 cup (250 ml) of marine aquarium water into a container. Shake product well. Add the recommended amount (see below) of capfuls or ml of Bacter Clean•M to the container of aquarium water. Stir and allow to stand for a few minutes. Add to aquarium in desired location. If also using with BacterGen•M and/or BacterGen•MD, stop their use during the initial two weeks, then cut the addition of those products in half, and use them on different days.

    Recommended amounts.

To rapidly clean aquariums: 6 capfuls (30 ml or one ounce) initially on the first day, then add 1 capful (5 ml) of Bacter Clean•M for every 25 US gallons (100 L) of aquarium volume, daily for 2 weeks or longer, as necessary to achieve your goals. It is important to do a 10-20% water change, using a quality salt mix, after each 2 weeks of high dosage use, vacuuming all debris and undesirable materials from the live rocks and decorations. At this time, unwanted substances should begin to loosen and come off the rocks easily. Daily use may be continued as long as needed, if desired.

Maintenance Dosage: 4 capfuls (20 ml) of Bacter Clean•M for every 25 US gallons (100 L) of aquarium volume once a week or 3 ml per day.

Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Contains non-pathogenic microbes and enzymes. If in eyes flush with water, if irritation continues, seek medical attention.

  • Continuum BacterGen M

    $19.00

    The Continuum advantage.

BacterGen•M is a breakthrough in microbial cultures and is specifically designed for marine aquariums. Whereas most competing products, designed primarily for freshwater aquariums, rarely work well in saltwater environments, BacterGen•M will quickly generate effective bacterial populations in seawater. BacterGen•M rapidly establishes nitrifying biological filtration in new marine aquariums, greatly reducing the time it takes to cycle the system. It is also designed to deliver bacteria to digest leftover food, decaying organic material and detritus in established marine fish and reef aquariums, providing for a cleaner environment for your aquarium inhabitants. Whereas competing products may increase the production of toxic hydrogen sulfide in the system, BacterGen•M is non-sulfur fixing and will reduce it to near zero. BacterGen•M contains both aerobic and anaerobic microbes which will generate new populations and greatly increase existing bacterial populations to establish and accelerate nitrification and denitrification, lowering ammonia, and nitrites, as well as lowering phosphates, nitrates and organic pollutants significantly.

    Use in aquarium keeping.

Aquarium systems accumulate waste from uneaten food and other organic material. Over time, this accumulation lowers water quality, releases toxic gases into the water, and creates sludge on the bottom. The addition of a high quality microbe culture, such as BacterGen•M will cause a rapid increase in the population of beneficial microorganisms with a resulting increase in water clarity and a drop in unbeneficial nutrients, particularly ammonia and nitrogen compounds as well as phosphates. Continuum recommends that you consider using Reef Micro•Fuel, along with the BacterGen•M, as an organic carbon source to accelerate the growth and maintenance of both aerobic and anaerobic bacterial populations in your aquarium.

    Directions and protocol.

Place 1 cup (250 ml) of marine aquarium water into a container. Shake product well. Add the recommended amount (see below) of capfuls or ml of BacterGen•M to the container of aquarium water. Stir and allow to stand for a few minutes. Add to aquarium in desired location. It is usually best to add to biological filtration material, if this is possible or in a low flow area that will lead directly to the biological filter, but do not add directly to a pump intake. In reef aquaria, add around the porous liverock, also. In new setups, soak new biological filtration material in BacterGen•M for an hour, and then add what is left of the soak to the system.

    Recommended amounts.

To establish new aquariums: 1 capful (5 ml) of BacterGen•M for every 25 US gallons (100 L) of aquarium volume, daily for 2 weeks or longer, if necessary.

Medium to heavily loaded aquariums to reduce sludge and waste: 1 capful (5 ml) of BacterGen•M for every 25 US gallons (100 L) of aquarium volume daily as necessary.

Low nutrient aquariums: 1 capful (5 ml) of BacterGen•M for every 50 US gallons (200 L) of aquarium volume once or twice a week.

Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Contains non-pathogenic microbes. If in eyes flush with water, if irritation continues, seek medical attention.

  • Continuum BacterGen MD

    $19.00$35.00

    The Continuum advantage.

BacterGen•MD is a breakthrough in microbial cultures and is specifically designed to establish anaerobic bacteria populations in denitrators and anoxic zones (those zones that are depleted in dissolved oxygen), such as internal pores in live rock and to establish anoxic slime layers within all zones, even within zones otherwise saturated with oxygen. BacterGen•MD does this by developing layers of bacterial slime to prevent oxygen availability to anaerobic microbes thereby encouraging denitration by conversion of nitrates to nitrogen gas. Whereas most competing products are designed primarily for freshwater aquariums, and most don’t do much to address nitrate reduction, BacterGen•MD will quickly generate effective anoxic zones and encourage beneficial denitrifying bacterial populations in seawater. Whereas competing products may increase the production of toxic hydrogen sulfide in the system, and denitrators, particularly those utilizing alcohol or sugar for fuel are known for hydrogen sulfide production, BacterGen•MD is non-sulfur fixing and will reduce hydrogen sulfide levels.

    Use in aquarium keeping.

BacterGen•MD is designed to seed new denitrators, as well as to form anoxic zones in other areas of marine aquariums. When seeding new denitrators, or re-starting an old unit, it is best to do this off line. Clean old denitrators first, to remove any buildup of organic material so that bacteria have clean surfaces for attachment. Fill the unconnected denitrator with aquarium water, then add this product. Since the bacteria will have no food, it is necessary to also add equal amounts of Reef Micro•Fuel, along with the BacterGen•MD, as an organic carbon source to accelerate the growth and maintenance of the new bugs. Let denitrator stand for 12 hours for establishment of new populations. IMPORTANT: Dispose of water in seeded denitrator and refill with fresh seawater from the aquarium. Place on line. CAUTION: adjust dripping system or system flow control for a very low level to start, and increase gradually per manufacturer’s instructions. Follow addition protocol immediately for direct addition of both BacterGen•MD and Reef Micro•Fuel. Denitrator will still require time to fully cycle, although this time will be greatly reduced.

    Directions and protocol.

Place 1 cup (250 ml) of marine aquarium water into a container. Shake product well. Add the recommended amount (see below) of capfuls or ml of BacterGen•MD to the container of aquarium water. Stir and allow to stand for a few minutes. Add to aquarium in desired location. It is usually best to add to denitrator intake if used, or in a low flow area that will lead directly to the denitration filter, but do not add directly to a pump intake. In reef aquaria, add around the porous liverock, also. In denitrators, see use instructions on other sidebar. BacterGen•MD may be used simultaneously with BacterGen•M. In this case reduce the dose of each product by half. To get the most out of this product, the use of Reef Micro•Fuel simultaneously is highly recommended.

    Recommended amounts.

Directly to the aquarium for Medium to heavily loaded aquariums to reduce nitrates: 1 capful (5 ml) of BacterGen•MD for every 50 US gallons (100 L) of aquarium volume daily as necessary.

Directly to the aquarium for Low nutrient aquariums or for maintenance of established aquariums: 1 capful (5 ml) of BacterGen•MD for every 100 US gallons (200 L) of aquarium volume once or twice a week or 1 to 2 ml per day.

New Denitration Filters: 1 capful (5 ml) of BacterGen•MD for every 100 US gallons (200 L) of aquarium volume and an equal amount of Reef Micro•Fuel directly to the filter, as directed above.

Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Contains non-pathogenic microbes. If in eyes flush with water, if irritation continues, seek medical attention.

  • Continuum Coral Elements Amino – 60ml

    $48.50

    The Continuum advantage.

Coral Elements•Amino is a free form amino acid complex that closely replicates the amino acid profile of hard coral tissue. It encourages new coral tissue growth and vibrant coloration, by providing solubilized proteins in a readily absorbable form. It is particularly useful for newly fragged corals or those that have been damaged in shipping, injured, grazed upon or that have been subject to bleaching in that it makes the job of nutrient uptake and tissue repair much easier for the animal. (However, compromised animals may require medication, other nutrients and special treatment beyond what this product can do. No claims are made that such animals will recover.)

    Use in aquarium keeping.

During times of stress or rapid growth, Corals can utilize free form amino acids directly from this product, with minimal digestion required, rather than having to rely on their zooxanthellae alone. It is also useful as a regular regimen to assist in normal growth and coloration. In addition to Coral Elements•Amino, it is recommended that you also add Coral•Elements N to provide coral specific minerals and vitamins. When using this product as a food, Continuum recommends that the hobbyist vary the types and sizes of foods delivered into the reef aquarium. Other Continuum foods that make good choices for this food rotation include Coral Exponential, Ocean Snow, Micro•Blast, Zoo•Blast and Phyto•Blast. Also, occasionally blending the foods and using them as soaks for other foods will give your invertebrates a variety simulating nature. Vary the time of day for feeding, as well, being sure to feed at night for those organisms that primarily feed nocturnally. Many corals feed primarily at night, extending their tentacles and mesentarial filaments, using their nematocysts to capture prey, and entrapping prey on their sticky tentacles with mucus and drawing it into their mouths.

    Directions and protocol.

Shake well prior to use. Add 1 capful (5 ml) per 50 US-gallons (200 L) of marine aquarium water 2 to 3 times per week, in an area of high flow. This product works wonderfully as a food soak or if added to food soak.

    Expert use.

Target feeding is the best method of addition. Use a turkey baster, pipette, or similar tool to release upstream of animals to be fed. Do not touch corals with tool. Do not allow aquarium water to enter the bottle, to do so will introduce bacteria into the product and accelerate its decomposition. Instead, drop or pour appropriate amount of Coral Elements•Amino into a cup and use any tool in the cup. Feed all that you pour and do not return any product to the container (again to prevent contamination).

Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Contains coral food, if ingested drink water. If in eyes flush with water.

  • Continuum Coral Elements N

    $16.50$44.00

    The Continuum advantage.

Coral Elements•N vitamin and mineral micronutrient complex replaces crucial minor and trace minerals lost to carbon filtration, protein skimming and ozone and provides essential vitamins for growth of live corals and other invertebrates. It contains no heavy metals, phosphates, silicates, gluconates, or polygluconates.

    Use in aquarium keeping.

Corals acquire vitamins and minerals directly from the surrounding seawater, as well as from ingested food. Regular addition of Coral Elements•N vitamin and mineral micronutrient complex provides for availablity of these nutrients. Minerals influence the coloration of all marine species including corals and clams and are important in many of the chemical reactions that take place in living tissues. In addition to Coral Elements•N, we recommend that you also use Coral Exponential to provide needed amino acids for coral tissue growth. The hobbyist should pay close attention to the alkalinity, or KH of the system and closely monitor the calcium, magnesium and strontium levels. Continuum recommends that you maintain a calcium level of between 410 and 450 mg/L (ppm), an alkalinity level of 7 to 11 dKH (2.5 to 4 meq/L), and a magnesium level of 1250 to 1350 mg/L (ppm). Note: Aquarists keeping SPS corals should consider keeping alkalinity at 7 to no more than 9 dKH (2.5 to 3.21 meq/L).

    Directions and protocol.

Shake well prior to use. Add 1 capful (5 ml) per 50 US-gallons (200 L) of marine aquarium water 1 to 2 times per week.

    Expert use.

Dosing through use of a drip system is a superior method of addition. Do not mix with buffers or alkalinity supplements prior to addition. You may mix it with strontium, magnesium, and many other supplements. See our website for compatibility of supplements. It is not possible, with current test kits, to measure the exact dosage of Coral Elements•N vitamin and trace minerals to add, so to dose, simply add the above amount to the doser. In other words, add 1 capful to the amount of solution that the doser will add in 2 to 4 days per 50 US-gallons (200 L) of marine aquarium water.

Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Contains trace minerals, if ingested drink water. If in eyes flush with water.

  • Continuum Coralline Purple CX

    $15.00$28.00

    The Continuum advantage.

Coralline Purple•CX is specifically designed to encourage and accelerate growth of purple and pink coralline algae without fertilizing green algae. Because it is made from expensive marine aragonite, with added supporting minerals, it will not pollute your system like inexpensive aquatic muds of terrestrial origin may. It is phosphate and nitrate free.

    Use in aquarium keeping.

Coralline Algae is not only beautiful in the marine aquarium, it takes up the space where unwanted organisms might normally grow. Because coralline algae is alive, it must be introduced into the aquarium by the addition of small pieces of live rock upon which it is already growing. This doesn’t take much. You may be able to get many different types growing on small chunks at your local aquarium store. Some coralline algae will grow with little or no lighting, while others seem to enjoy strong reef lighting. It is evident that lighting does play some role, so you should experiment with it. It is important to measure phosphates and keep the level as low as possible to encourage coralline algae growth. Continuum also recommends that you maintain a calcium level of between 410 and 450 mg/L (ppm), an alkalinity level of 7 to 11 dKH (2.5 to 4 meq/L), and a magnesium level of 1250 to 1350 mg/L (ppm). Note: Aquarists keeping SPS corals should consider keeping alkalinity at 7 to no more than 9 dKH (2.5 to 3.21 meq/L). Addition of Coralline Purple•CX at night will help balance pH and prevent night time pH decline. It will also allow time for the water to clear from the cloudiness that is inherent in dissolving the aragonite particles in the product.

    Directions and protocol.

Coralline Purple•CX will cloud the aquarium upon addition, it is therefore recommended that it be added a night in an area of strong flow. Shake vigorously immediately prior to use! Add 1 capful (5 ml) per 25 US-gallons (100 L) of marine aquarium water 3 to 4 times per week. Coralline Purple•CX will raise the calcium level in your aquarium. For best results, measure the calcium concentration and add as required to maintain the concentration between 410 and 450 mg/L (ppm).

This product is not suitable for use in most dosing systems because of the need for agitation, and should be added manually. Daily addition is preferable, though. Do not mix with any other supplements prior to addition.

Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Contains powdered aragonite and mineral salts, if ingested drink water. If in eyes flush with water for 15 minutes. If redness persists consult your healthcare practitioner.

  • Continuum Exxodus Phosphyx Cubes

    $57.00$104.00

    The Continuum advantage.

Exxodus•Phosphyx is an extremely porous filtration medium designed to be used in all aquariums and aquatic systems with a pH of 7.5 or higher,  for chemical filtration (phosphate & silicate removal). It literally has the highest surface area of any filtration medium in the world, by far, yet it provides excellent flow characteristics! Each liter of Exxodus•Phosphyx provides over 320,000 square feet of surface area internally for bacterial colonization and even more vast surface area due to GFO spicule and “fur” formation during the ceramic formation.

Exxodus•Phosphyx is unique in that it is doped with GFO (ferric oxyhydroxide) which is bound in the material as well as coated onto all the vast surface area and acts to remove unwanted phosphate and silicate from aquarium water more efficiently than any other known material. It works extremely well in nano aquariums, as well as systems of all sizes. It is particularly well suited to reef systems with live rock including FOWLR systems. Use in a canister filter, reactor, or other type of aquarium filter with slow to moderate water flow. Do not fluidize because the product may grind down or release particles into the aquarium due to mechanical action. It should be subjected to a low and non-turbulent flow rate, if possible.

    Use in aquarium keeping.

If corals react negatively to the material, it may be a sign that phosphate is being removed too aggressively. If this happens, remove the material for a couple of days and then replace only half as much as you were previously using.

    Directions and protocol.

Utilize a minimum of 160 ml (about 26 cubes) of Exxodus•Phosphyx for every 100 U.S. gallons, (400 L) of aquarium volume, more if phosphate levels or bioload dictates. Rinse Exxodus•Phosphyx gently in deionized or reverse osmosis water. If using for biological filtration, Pre-seed the product by placing it in a plastic bucket, submerged in aquarium water, and adding the recommended dose for your aquarium size of BacterClean or BacterGen. Allow the product to remain in this soak for 24 hours, stirring gently occasionally or agitating the liquid by pouring out and back into the container, gently. Place the seeded Exxodus•Phosphyx into your filter. The use of a pre-filtration filter floss, sponge or other mechanical pre-filtration is recommended to prevent fouling.

Caution: Do not fluidize or allow to abrade against moving parts. Material can wear down due to mechanical action, and produce dust and fines. Keep out of reach of children (contains iron). Not for human consumption. If ingested drink water, consult with a physician.

  • Continuum Power Cleanse CC – 450g

    $35.60

    The Continuum advantage.

Power•Cleanse CC is an extremely powerful, highly activated catalytic carbon containing huge numbers of mesopores and macropores, suited to direct adsorption of a wide range of organic pollutants in tap water, as well as marine, brackish and freshwater aquaria. It will significantly raise the ORP (unlike standard carbon) and it will outperform any standard carbon because of its catalytic action. Unlike standard carbon, Power•Cleanse CC will also remove toxic chloramine, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide from tap or aquarium water. Power•Cleanse CC is powerful, you don’t need much!

    Use in Water Filtration:

Reverse osmosis filter membranes can be damaged by chloramine or chlorine, and they don’t remove chloramine for your aquarium. Standard carbon removes chlorine only, not chloramine and also converts much of the chloramine to toxic ammonia. Power•Cleanse CC, when placed ahead of the membrane, will remove the ammonia & chloramine as well as hydrogen sulfide to make the water safe for the membrane and your aquarium. Load a refillable filter media cartridge and place after the sediment filter and carbon block prior to the membrane in your reverse osmosis system. Change Power•Cleanse CC every 5,000 gallons (including waste water) or once a year, whichever comes first.

    Directions and protocol.

Rinse well in cold filtered freshwater, preferably RO or distilled water, but tap water may be used. Place loosely in a polyester filter bag or filter chamber and position to force water flow through the carbon. For best results, use a particulate prefilter ahead of the carbon, such as filter floss or fine sponge. Start with about 1/4 gram of Power•Cleanse CC catalytic carbon per gallon of aquarium capacity, or about 1/5 cupful per 100 US gallons (400 L). You may gradually increase the dose, if desired. Power•Cleanse CC is powerful, start slow.

Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Contains activated catalytic carbon, if ingested drink water. If in eyes flush with water.
